Huehuetl Aztec Drum
The Huehuetl meaning “voice of the ancestors”an ancient and powerful drum Aztec, Maya and Tarascan people used for sacred music, ceremony, and warfare. The carvings representative of animals, warriors, deities or symbols used for the elements, arrow shaped cut outs pointing down adore each drum so that the energy of the drum can enter the earth. These beautiful standing drums made from a whole log of parota wood from Mexico. Completed with sustainable bison hide for a gorgeous tone.
One beauty we have available is a replica of an extremely well known drum. The Huehuetl of Malinalco one of the most famous examples dating back to around 1500 AD which can still be seen on display in Mexico. This Huehuetl represents a real event in Malinalco: the festival of Nahui-Ollin, which included eagle and jaguar warriors singing, dancing, crying and sacrifice.
These whole log Huehuetl are becoming more and more rare which makes these some incredible once in a lifetime drums to hold and bless your community with!
